Charles Olsen (Director) came to Tallahassee from
New York City over 25 years ago to head up the graduate
directing program at FSU's School of Theatre. Since
then he has directed and acted there and at TLT, at TCC, for the Southern
Shakespeare Festival, and for the Capitol City Shakespeare Company, among
others. He is a proud founding member of the Actors Repertory Theatre of
Tallahassee, whose last production was Chekhov's "Uncle
Vanya" at TLT. Last year he guided the TLT productions of Neal Simon's "45
Seconds From Broadway" and David Mamet's "The Water Engine" in
the Coffeehouse.
He is very fond of actors. His mother was a Broadway
actress. His wife is a Broadway actress - only one show, sad to say. Even
his son and daughter were actors - until they wisely
opted for the real world. He is also very fond of Irish
playwrights, having staged plays by Sean O'Casey, Lady
Gregory and Eugene O'Neill (American Irish). He is presently
directing "The
Weir" by Conor McPherson for the Tallahassee Irish Society which is
slated to play January 18, 19 and 20 at The Warehouse
on Gaines Street. It should provide a bracing introduction
to contemporary Irish playwrights and Martin McDonagh's
challenging "Pillowman".
